A BILL to amend and reenact section thirty-one, article one, chapter three of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended; and to amend and reenact section one, article five of said chapter, all relating to days and hours of primary elections.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That section thirty-one, article one, chapter three of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended and reenacted; and that section one, article five of said chapter be amended and reenacted, all to read as follows:
ARTICLE 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS AND DEFINITIONS.

§3-1-31. Days and hours of elections.

General elections shall be held in the several election precincts of the state on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November of each even year. Primary and elections shall be held on the first Tuesday after the eighth day of June of each even year. Special elections shall be held on the days provided by law therefor for by law.
At every primary, general or special election the polls shall be opened open in each precinct on the day of such the election at six-thirty o'clock in the forenoon morning and be closed close at seven-thirty o'clock in the evening.
ARTICLE 5. PRIMARY ELECTIONS AND NOMINATING PROCEDURES.
§3-5-1. Time and place of holding primary elections in the year
one thousand nine hundred ninety-six and thereafter; hours polls open.

Primary elections shall be held at the voting place in each of the voting precincts in the state, for the purposes set forth in this article, on the second first Tuesday in May after the eighth day of June in the year one thousand nine hundred eighty- six ninety-six and in each second year thereafter.
At such the primary election the polls shall be opened and closed at the hours provided for opening and closing the polls in a general election open in each precinct on the day of the election at six-thirty o'clock in the morning and close at
seven-thirty o'clock in the evening.


NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to change the day on which a primary election is held from the second Tuesday in May to the first Tuesday after the eighth day of June.
